My current pair of headphones hiss and crackle, I've had them for almost two years. I am looking into buying a new pair. My current pair have 7.1 surround sound. I am wondering which of these will facilitate my play style and my liking of audio better (I play mainly FPS games). I have thinned down my options to the Sennheiser HD 598 CS with a modmic 4 or 5 and the steelseries Siberia 840 (using the inline mic). I am leaning more towards the sennheiser modmic combo but i am not sure of the trade offs. (ex. 7.1 surround sound)

If i do go with the sennheiser modmic combo which modmic should i get?

Also, if you have any other headphones i should look into you can see my price range from the aforementioned items.

If there are an other questions please just ask.

I can only speak from a man that has never used Sennheiser headsets, but I really REALLY love my HyperC Cloud 2's. They are $91 for the full black version right now. 7.1 surround sound (even though I never use it it's nice to have I guess), very comfy, and a pretty good mic. If you don't go with my suggestion I would go with the sennheiser modmic combo, someone else will have to tell you which one though.

1. Consider the Hyper X Cloud (not 2) idea as it's cheaper and still offers great performance.

2. Get the open back 598's if you can (when your environment allows you to)

3. Modmic 5 adds omnidiractional mode which sounds better but pics up a ton of noises around you, like keystrokes.

But 5 is also a lot more modular. Imho not worth the price premium
