You can use an SSD with a SATA 2 port, but why? Computers these days have plenty of SATA 3 ports. Don't pay a lot for an SSD and then go bottleneck it.

All SATA generations are compatible.  A "SATA 3" SSD can be plugged into an old motherboard with a SATA 1 port.  An old SATA 1 drive can be plugged into a SATA 3 port.  The only difference is the speed will match whatever generation is slower.

Ah ok excelled thankyou people:) and can you guys recommend a sad to use for main drive , if bought a hdd and it's the loudest thing iv ever heard ! People have already diagnosed it as a dying drive but doesn't help but it's just in the case cage, do I need to buy a tray for it to keep it not so noisey ?
