Has anyone experienced an almost 30 degree C temp drop just by removing factory TIM and using IC Diamond? Using Prime 95 and the stock TIM on the Corsair H115i my cpu would top out in the low to mid 60 degree C range after 30 minutes of torture testing or small FFT's. I have been running this test now after applying a pea sized amount of IC Diamond to my CPU and surfing the web, playing with PhotoShop CS and my temp will not go over 38 degrees C. Is this normal? Is the factory corsair TIM just that bad???

if you are talking about de-lidding and replaceing that stuff then yes, this is comon. 30C is a bit on the higher side of drops but you can usiually expect 15-20C drops by delidding or replaceing the thermal paste under the IHS

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I didn't delid though... just confused to see that much of a temp drop. There wasn't that much of the corsair stuff on the cpu either.

so you just replaced the thermal paste? in that case you had some really shit paste and either way too little or way to much of it

I would imagine you didn't have a proper contact between the CPU & heatsink first time around because replacing thermal paste alone does not yield such results, typically around 3-5c.

Just replaced the paste. Loxa, that was my thought as well. I think this can be a learning experience... If you get an All in one cooling system Like the Corsair H100, H115i or whatever... step one, replace the thermal paste. I continued to torture the cpu and got it to hit 40 degrees C. I am pleased.
