Hey all,

I just got an Asus mg24uq (a native 4k ips monitor). I was playing some of the Ghost Recon beta and I was only getting around 36 fps on 4k low settings and medium was around 31fps. I have a Gigabyte G1 gtx 1060 6gb, i5 6500 and 16gb ram. I decided to see what it looked like on 1440p very high and I just turned it on for little bit and got around 43 fps. I was wondering which res I should run it in. Pls dont tell me to try each and see which is better because for some weird reason Im just a bit special. But I looked it up and apparently 1440p on a 4k display looks quite terrible compared to 4k but I was wondering whether if i oc my card a little and got around the same fps on 4k medium as downresd 1440p Ultra / Very high which would look better/ be the better option.

Thanks so much

unfortunately , a 1060 6gb just isn't going to drive that monitor at any decent framerate. in fact, there is NO current single video card on the market that will drive all games at max settings, you need two gtx 1080s in sli.

that said, you didn't ask what would run it at max, you asked if overclocking the card would allow you playable fps. It would depend on the title and the cards capability. a great oc for 24/7 would maybe yeild a net gain of 5 to 11fps, but as with any overclock, ymmv. Really, unless you Downscale, don't expect much improvement with that card. the gtx 1080 ti and amd rx 5xx series cards are just around the Corner. Those cards are much more capable than current gen by a fairly large margin.

do your own research on the side to see what offerings can run 4k. your 1060 6gb is simply not one of them.

1440p looks better than 1080p on a 4K monitor. A lot of people who have never tried it before will tell you that 1080p will look better because it divides evenly or something like that... This is just theorycrafting and is not accurate. 1440p has a much higher number of data samples and will downscale better.

Like Zaeo said... the GTX 1080 is more a 1080p card for 60 fps~ at high/ultra settings.

Withg a few settings down a bit, also 1440p possible.

For 4k, this card is pretty much NOT good. Like you saw, even at Low you won't have smooth fps.

Either set your Game to 1080p or 1440p, or upgrade your GPU to at least a GTX 1080 (and have decent framerates at medium/high), or wait for the GTX 1080 ti, or Vega.
