Hi!

I checked games fps comparison with these two processors (i3-6100 and FX-8350) and they're about the same in most game. I'd like to know why since the I3 has 2 cores at 3,7 ghz and the fx has 8 cores (4 physical) at 4 ghz. The FX also have more cache memory. The i3 have hyper threading...

I'm really not an expert so if someone could explain that to me as simple as possible it would be appreciated :)

My experience with a FX-8120 was terrible, I used it for 6 years but when I upgraded to a decent Intel processor I was blown away by how much I was missing.  I really don't recommend going with an old AMD processor.  If you can save your money and get an i5, my 6600k rocks, if you don't want to wait or don't have the time, get the Intel, and upgrade in the future, the FX-8350 will leave your unsatisfied.

well personally i'd go with the i3 as it gives you a good upgrade path later, if you buy an FX cpu now regardless of if it performs better you'll have to upgrade/change a lot of components if you want to upgrade later on down the line

IPC. Each FX's core run slower. It's not abot only gigahertz. you can have a truck with 8 wheels and more horsepower yet will still run slower than a 2 wheel motorbile

The intel chip has like 50% more single threaded performance

but the FX chip will have more multi-threaded performance, however most games don't fully utilize 8 threads

In any case, Ryzen kills the FX and intel low end potentially, but they're taking way too long to come out with Ryzen 3&5

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I'm trying to build a budget pc yeah... like a 825$ CAD pc (with tax and shipping it cost around 950$ so I don't really want to go higher than that). I've made a topic an hour ago on a specific build to get "appraisal", but I didn't get the G4560 suggestion yet! Here's what my build looks like for now https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/9Mk2Z8

I'll check that G4560 tomorrow, I'm in Belgium right now and it's 3 am! Pretty tired haha

Thanks all for your help! It's really appreciated! I like how I can ask questions around here and there's always many people ready to help me out! :)

Ya naw man, don't get a kingston SSD, the Mushkin ECO 3 here is cheap and even has a cache

Going for a cheap motherboard mostly as you'll probably want to switch to ryzen in the coming months instead of sticking to intel with an i7 as you'll get more cores/threads at the same price, just need to replace the motherboard naturally

Don't buy an OEM key if you're going to buy windows, but you don't need to buy a windows 10 key to install windows 10, you can just make a bootable USB straight from microsoft and install it no problem, just can't change your background

And you already have a hard drive or something to use for mass storage?

There's other ways around it as well, but in windows 7 at least it'll reset to a black background after a while

(that analogy is closer to a greater workload, but whatever)

You can have a V8 that makes 200 HP or you can have a V8 that makes 500 HP. Both have 8 cylinders but obviously one does more work for what it has. Think that might be better than the other one.

i5 6600k @ 4.4ghz on Hyper 212 Evo

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe
