Rendering Server and NAS

I finished my personal PC over a year ago and was hoping it would have been good enough to handle some rendering (pix4d, photoscan, CAD), but I am finding out that a hex core won't quite get the job(s) done in the time that I need.

I am new to server/nas builds and have been trying to do some basic research, but my time is limited and am asking for the communities help in speeding this up.  What can be done in the 3,500-4000 range for a nas, rendering server/farm, and a rack if required?  My rendering jobs are currently taking my i7 5930k approximately 12hrs to complete in pix4d, I would like to cut this down to 3 so I can do the analysis and the report writing on the projects.  My internet connection is too slow to use cloud services as I have 6-20gb of photos per job and would take too long to upload.

Thanks for the help and let me know what else I need to be thinking of as I have zero networking experience beyond seeing the equipment.

I would put in a new Ryzen 1800x, 32GB of memory, and a gtx 1080 or 1070. And 2 10 tb firepro drives.

A 6950x is also a valid option still. Though you can get 8 core 16 thread AMD CPUs so I recommend those, I do recommend waiting on benchmarks though.

The 6950x is a terrible fucking deal for how much you pay for it. You can shell out an extra hundred bucks and get the 2699 v4 which will absolutely rape the 6950x in nearly every single rendering scenario.

@Juggernaught I would personally hold out for Ryzen's launch to get some non-AMD benchmarks to see if the 1800x holds true, because if it does it'll be a fantastic bargain.

Waiting may not be an option...especially with my busy season coming up.

then get the xeon option above. also have a look around for a second hand xeon server, good ones can be found cheaper than an i7 build with better performance for batch processing work
