stupid question about psu

I want to buy parts for a gaming pc but the GPU has to wait a month.

is it bad to only have a i5-6600K with a 600W psu, I don't think that the cpu will die.

I guess that psu's are smart enough to deliver the wattage needed.

but I like a conformation from you guys

No it's perfectly safe, just get a good quality unit and you will be good.

Perfectly fine. Like @W-L said above, a good quality unit should do fine. (Look up the PSU Tier list on the forum, that might help)

Yes all their units are quite good nothing that would put up red flags.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what your concern is, but your system will only draw the power your components need. Having a 600 Watt PSU doesn't mean 600 Watts of power are coursing through your PC at all times or something. Your PC with a mid to high-end video card will probably draw around 300 Watts under full load (depending on what video card), and without a video card maybe as little as 100-150 Watts.

 

600 Watts is just the maximum capacity that the PSU is rated for.

 

^^^ We have a really good PSU quality "tier" list pinned here, but while several be Quiet! units appear on it I don't see the System Power 8. I'm not sure how good that particular unit is. They're a generally reliable company as far as I know, but PSUs need to be judged on the model rather than the brand name. At the very least I can say 600 Watts is plenty for anything you're likely to put into a PC today as long as you're using a single video card.
