Hello Guys,

I wanted to open a title about internet security and network security. I'm new to this and have no clue about internet and network security. My questions are;

  • Who can track your movements on internet
  • Who can hack in to your network
  • Can people hack your router and trace all your activity
  • Is VPN a solid solution to all these questions above
  • Where should I start to learn about network and how can I master it?

Thanks alot !

  1. As far as tracking you on the internet I feel about any one can. But your ISP probably does and the NSA defiantly does.
  2. Any one can hack your network if they know what they are doing. Your router can be hacked. There have been many bugs found in firmware that has given attackers an opportunity to gain access.
  3. VPN are a great solution. To my understanding of what I learned in a basis networking class, a VPN creates an encrypted tunnel from you to a server your trying to connect to. In the case of a home user, you connect from your location to a server somewhere out on the internet. It makes it nearly if not impossible to track what you are doing. Thats assuming the VPN provider does not keep records. VPN's were developed for businesses. So you could remote in from home securely.
  4. As far as learning stuff, you can look in to books, But Lyndia.com might be a great source. Youtube is also a good source of info. Maybe check out Eli the Computer Guy, I think he should have some networking videos.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
