External gpu on laptop

Hello! Im a pretty poor gamer so i would want to get a external gpu for my laptop becouse that would be much cheaper then building a whole new one. But there i a small problem. I have a Lenovo ideapad y700 and it doesent have a usb type c port. It only has usb 3.0. So is there any way to get a external gpu working on it with like some sort of adapter or something like that. If there is a way then please tell me. I really cant afford getting a new one. Or maybe in the future do you think they will make it work somehow?

You can but it would not be pretty and it is not optimal at all.

I would highly suggest not doing so @iamdarkyoshi

Jayztwocents released a video on external GPUs today, you should really have a look at that. In short, you loose a lot of performance with an external GPU and is not really worth it IMO. You'd better be off by saving a little and then building an actual PC. The USB 3.0 would be far worse since it only transfers 5 Gigabit/second.

no usb 3.0 wont work. You need to open up your laptop and disconnect the WiFi card (sometimes referred as WLAN) from the PCIe port so that you can connect something like this https://www.amazon.com/Laptop-External-PCI-Graphics-Card/dp/B00Q4VMLF6

not recomended, not guaranteed to work. save up some more ...at around $600 u can get a decent gaming pc

Thank God he made that video. All the Razer eGPU fan boys never believe this when I tell them a eGPU 1070 is worse than their internal tdp limited 1060.
