Hello everyone.

I recently moved to Japan, and before of dying of boredom, I must find a way for playing games. However, once I am a student my budget is quite tight, and I don`t have any experience with building PCs, so any help would be nice.

Budget
I am looking for something around ¥50000 (a little bit less than US$500) including all the peripherals.

Aim
Just gaming, mainly the AAA titles, such as Witcher 3, GTA V, Battlefield One, Mafia III, etc.

Console or PC?
Once I can`t spend much, I might consider buying a console (and a TV), even though I am more like a PC-person. What do you guys think I might get the best value for the money, and also the smother experience?

If the Console alternative is better, how much would I have to spend more on the Rig to make it worth it?

Thanks :)

For your specific situation I would say just go with a console. PS4 is around $250 now with Uncharted 4 and you can allocate another $250 for a TV and you're set.

i'm not really sure about japan's part prices, maybe a G4560, 8gb of ram and a gtx 1060 6gb/rx 480 will fit. i would say find some secondhand shops and see if they have some good deals there.

I'd have to agree... In order to have a whole PC and peripherals would cost somewhere in the ballpark of $600-800 if you also get a monitor.

I understand that this video is a bit dated (Not really) but it should help you get a basis --->

He needs all peripherals also, including monitor. With all that, it goes way past $500.

As a student who has spent WAY too much on my PC in the last 3 years I can say that you should just go with console. Save the money and get a gaming pc down the road when you have a larger budget.

Buy used, BUY USED BUY USED BUY USED!

Seriously, you can make a kick ass gaming rig with used parts.

I'll show some stuff from eBay, keep in mind though these are US prices, so your prices may vary.

Hell, old Core 2 Quads and Phenoms (at least X4s) can still game.

Or you could go the route of:

An old Core 2 Quad desktop.  Just upgrade the RAM to at least 8GB.

Then add the cheapest 460 or 1050ti you can find.  Or if you can get a good deal on a 750ti (which can still do gaming pretty well).  Or maybe a 950 or R7 360.

Then buy a cheap 1080p monitor, then get something like

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hnL7YJ/redragon-keyboard-ictg0101.

There ya go.  let's part it out.

$40 for the PC

$20 for 8GB of DDR2 (that's how much I got it for at least)

$100 for a GPU

$70 for a 1080p monitor

$26 for the keyboard/mouse combo.

$30 for a set of Turtle Beach Ear Force X12s (they're decent for the price, IMO)

That's $286 right there.  You have a complete gaming PC, one that should still be able to handle AAA titles decently well.

If you want AMD, here's a Phenom II X4 PC, just add a little extra to the PC price.

This one also uses DDR3 memory... so that might be easier to obtain.

Also found out with helping my roommate with building his PC, you actually don't have to buy Windows 10.  It won't be activated, but Microsoft actually won't stop you from using the computer, you just don't get some personalization options.

Also, while you don't have much experience building PCs, it's quite easy.  Plenty of YouTubers have "how to build PC" videos.  Austin Evans actually has a really great tutorial on how to build a gaming PC.

Plus we're on here and we can help you if need be.
