How to start overclocking?

I am considering ocing my fx 6300 as i think its bottlenecking my r9 380 4gb. But when i start to put it to 3.8 and then 4 how do i know that howuch volts i should i increase or i if should not increase voltage or not. Also how much can i push 6300 without touching volts.
