physX doesnt make things better.. and better drivers? r9 290 and 290x are on beta drivers and are beating the gtx 780

PhysX make games great visuals. You can check on youtube if you want. If you don't like PhysX effect, that's your matter of taste. GTX 780ti destroys both r9 290 and 290x in every aspect. Plus they ain't that hot & loud as AMD cards

Because it's best! It's Nvidia.                    High quality,                   physX feature,               better drivers...                  I don't know, call me fanboy if you want, but I have AMDPHOBIA :S

1. Not a valid point

2. not quite sure what you mean AMD also have high quality.

3. valid It`s a good feature.

4. Not really, nVidia have made drivers that fried card running on them

5. Why do you have "AMDPHOBIA"

the r9 290x was released before 780ti, the 780ti came out just so nvidia could continue competing and being on top

by the time mantle becomes more popular, the r9 series will beat the 700 series easily, but when the 800 series comes out itll be back to square one

i personally think physX looks ridiculous, ive seen it on several games and it looks stupid  but yes my opinion

every aspect except price - crossfire configuration out performing sli - high resolution performance out performing everything including 780ti - you  can buy 2x 290 non X for the price of a single 780ti.

ok, I admit sometimes I sound very fanboy & I think I love that role. I know it's weird to understand :D

So to be serious now, both Nvidia & AMD have high-end cards. AMD has best bang for buck cards, but now Nvidia also dropped the prices (Thx for AMD). They both have their minuses & pluses. The things I don't like in AMDs R9 290x for ex. too loud, too hot. Yep with aftermaket cooling those problems will be solved, but will they gonna be more expansive? If yes, then it's not best bang for buck when you can get 780 with good temps & little noise. Then again, I like AMD's step in gaming with TressFX feature (which I consider very good feature & will be glad to see future games with it), in green team we have PhysX which for someone it's nothing, but for someone it's another nice feature (including me). If I'd have choice between GT 640 & AMD 7990 for example, of course I'd choose the last one, but all in all, if choose from red or green team, my voice goes in green.

There's no blanket statement. There are situations where you should go AMD and when you should go Nvidia. One is not better than the other whether it's for gaming or workstation purposes. One is better than the other depending on what you're doing whether you're doing work or gaming.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

and what would you use for personal rig(treat this as if its your gaming rig)

Depends on what programs are being used, in what way, and what content is being worked on.

Depends on how you're gaming. What games, resolution, budget, etc.

Answer changes depending.

first vid yes, but second vid no

the second vid i can understand where the physX comes into it but it starts to look to "artificial" if you understand that.

if its a real life scenario i can agree physX is pretty cool

Not this shit again. Seriously? This topics should be banned for good.

Fanboys gonna come and make toxic waste dump in here.

This is totally a load of BS! Fans of either technology partners/corporation wake the heck up!

Using a poll is generally a waste of time. This "GPU war" : "AMD vs NVIDIA" "Whose better then the other"

There are so many factors that differentiate a companies technical plan, marketing scheme.

Neither of the have produced a "true" single graphics card that underlines their opponents advantages as well as their weakness.

Afterwards you get the clingy fan-boi or fan-gal who says "ohh but it runs 4k resolution" and I think and reply "ha........oh really...........at what fps, frame time" SILENCE #BURNED.

The fact that we have indifferent opinions is a good thing however in the subject topic of GPU war our opinions are neither true or false and are stretched too far too wide

Please become a member of the Linus Tech Tips forum, keep writing smug remarks & let us love you. Peace out.

I declare a fan War :D! Amd is better IMO its cheaper and amazing performance for da price. I love saving money when I can. Nvidia cards might be more expensive but they are usually better by a little. Nothing worth spending 200 + bucks on. Can I start a war between Intel and Amd?

PhysX make games great visuals. You can check on youtube if you want. If you don't like PhysX effect, that's your matter of taste. GTX 780ti destroys both r9 290 and 290x in every aspect. Plus they ain't that hot & loud as AMD cards

If i may ask, what Nvidia cards do you own, or bought? My Closet consist of GTX Titan ,GTX 680,Sapphire 7970 Toxic Ghz Edition 6gb,Sapphire 7970 Ghz Edition 3gb,and running Sapphire R9 290X now . All awesome cards. But i would say that Nvidia caters to people with fat wallets,Where AMD is trying to make money too,but give a awesome gaming card without Taxing your wallet.

  4.  click here for nvidia gaming/professional

You have a point however if your willing to spend 430 dollars on a consumer grade graphics card that has mantle friend to new creative developers why not just buy a Mac pro, it is built with AMD's firepro workstation grade graphics and Oh it has 12Gbs of vram (no bottlenecks) surely I'd think smartly about what your going to write next. Sorry to be offensive or just plain rude but the real deal is this forum is based on consumer grade electronics 98 percent of the time. Note you cannot elaborate on the use of the Titan as it is a consumer and proconsumer based off of the GK110 chip that didn't quite go into the quadro or whatever it was.

Its industrial design is on par with how the HTC One first came out and launched.

thats where another problem is, im in new zealand and prices are about 20% different excluding the markup that shops put on the products..

i personally wasnt talking about the "titan" but more so about the lower grade(more affordable) which would run from 7900 (amd series) and the gtx 650(maybe 660) series through to r9 290x/290 and gtx 780 (excluding ti because it was released after the 290 launch, you can include it if you want..)

nvidia has been using a 256 bit bus all the way up until gtx 780.

while amd has been using a 384 bit bus to compete with there cards.. so what does this alone tell you about the quality of nvidias parts?

im personally a gamer, so the mac book pro is next to useless for me especially at the price point it is. itd be like buying a computer(basic office computer $300-500) to run a single 1080p monitor with 2 titans. (in new zealand 2 titans is $3400)

when comparing the r9 290 to the gtx 780, the price difference isnt significant unless your on a buget, its like $200 nzd..
