Hey guys, I decided to build a PC for my brother and am about to order, but thought I should post the parts in case something is missing. Maybe you have an idea for improvements? Open to suggestions. :)

  • Wait for Zen - the 7700k sucks.
  • Unnecessarily expensive motherboard.
  • Unnecessary expense on a 960 EVO SSD. How does your brother benefit from having a stupidly fast and stupidly expensive boot SSD?
  • Slow mass storage - 5900 RPM isn't very good.
  • $120 on an obsolete DVD writer. Silly.
  • A GTX 1070 with a 1080p 60Hz 5ms monitor? Is this a joke? And on top of that, the monitor you picked costs a stupid $430?!?! You could get a 34" 3440x1440 monitor for that kind of money.

Also, $3000 is a lot to spend on a PC, especially when you could probably build a better setup for 2/3rds the price.

Waste of money..

- Stupidly expensive mobo

- 1080p for $400? Does it give out blowjobs or something?

- Hybrid drives offer nothing for a secondary drive. Buy a WD Black instead.

- Nobody uses Blu-Rays unless you rip them

- Overkill PSU, get 650W.

- Overpriced memory

idk

You're spending more money on the motherboard than the processor itself? you serious? Pricetag doesnt mean performance, rethink this please

Personal build >  New-ish AMD main gaming setup

PLEASE QUOTE OR @ ME FOR A RESPONSE xD

This build would be a lot better for your brother if your wanting to spend $3000 on a setup and pc.

- It has a gtx 1080 instead of 1070 which will be able to handle 4k gaming.

- This build comes with a 4k monitor instead of that overpriced 1080p colour grading professional monitor.

- It's got 500gb of 960 evo storage compared to 250gb and it also has a faster wd black 7200rpm hard drive.

- The mouse you chose isn't good for gaming if thats what he plans to do so I included the Asus ROG Spatha along with the Corsair k95 that you chose.

- It's also almost $100 cheaper and it would absolutely destroy the original build.

There are a few things I'd consider:

  • Ryzen is right around the corner, I'd wait and see how that performs.
  • Your DVD drive is disturbing me.
  • Do you really need that many fans?
  • Do you really need that much RAM?
  • That monitor is a joke.
  • If you like high DPI mice, the Logitech will disappoint.
  • PSU is a little high in the wattage department unless you're making room for SLI.

With some tweaking you can easily fit a 144hz monitor and a 1080 in there.
There's a guide with questions Stickied at the top of the forum, I suggest looking it over and answering those here.

Makes it easier for us to help you. At least you got it in the right section the first time.

Welcome to the forum :)

The 960 EVO, at that capacity I'd say is worth it. It's only around $30 more than an 850 EVO.

5900 is fine for mass storage if he's not running games from it.

Motherboard is expensive, but some people like the look of it.

If it's mass storage and he's not running games on it it's fine.

Perhaps he likes the aesthetic of the motherboard? To some people that's worth money.

If he loads games on the secondary drive they'll load faster if it's a hybrid. Not ideal price wise, but it is better.

Some people like the looks. It's worth money to them. I don't understand why so many people have problems with this.

Granted, if he thought it'd improve performance, that's different. You could at least ask though.

You don't need to spend 400$ on a motherboard, regardless of looks. there are plenty of other motherboards for 100-200$ less that look just as sexy.

For 3000$ you can buy a Titan XP, 7700k, and 1440p Gysnc monitor build. Rethink it.

Fify. Keep in mind that aesthetics are completely open to perception, and just because someone likes the way that board looks and is willing to pay the price does not make it wrong. There's far too much of that on this forum.

People have different tastes and budgets.
