Why don't the laws of physics apply to virtual worlds? Computers are physical and limited by the known laws of physics? I mean everything virtual is physical, every transistor or byte on a hard drive.

I can't spawn in a car in real life. Creating matter big no no. But in a virtual world I can spawn in anything I want with the only dependent thing being the computers horsepower. A computer isn't virtual though so the hardware still abides by the laws of physics so would the virtual world too?

Complexity. There's just not enough hardware power to simulate every single thing. There's not enough hard drive space to store data properties from endless amount of different materials. Finally if you put together all of the hardware in the world it wouldn't even be 1/1000th of the power needed to simulate a few seconds of real world with trillions upon trillions of particles floating in the air affecting everything within our atmosphere.

 

Best we can do for now are approximations but I tend to think in the future, once our technology increases it won't create new worlds but augment our current reality instead: No need to recreate every single particle around you if you can just super impose the player or it's avatar in the world and figure out just the things he is immediately interacting with with low enough latency that it feels fluid.
