Hello LTT forums!

I'd like to know if this laptop is enough for 3D rendering, auto CAD, gaming, and content creation stuff. but I'm more interested to know the performance at autoCAD and content creation stuff

Is it overkill? if yes, what do you recommend? must be less than the price of this one.

I would be wary of the 16 GB of RAM. For my CAD, at least, 32 GB is even pushing it.

So, i should get 32GB of ram? for autoCAD?

I had no problem using Autodesk on a $400 X550ZA. It just took awhile to render... Real-time rendering was fine.

Not sure how complex what you do is, but you can usually buy and add another 16 GB DIMM for about $80.

Meh. i don't think I would surpass more than 16gb. if that happen I'll sell the ram and get 32gb.

So, this give me more hopes that this should be blazing fast right?

I'm getting this because i want to use a laptop that don't age too fast

Autodesk isn't really a demanding program. You might save a few hours when rendering a presentation, but real-time rendering was perfectly smooth. My $400 laptop didn't age at all, and it's 2 years old, plus and it's processor is pretty old stuff too.

If you'd rather a more manageable 15 inches, I use an Asus GL502VS, which is the same specs at a more reasonable size. 17.3 might be good if you're looking for a desktop replacement, but its BEEEEEG.

Ok, i concern about that. because i like more "big laptops". and the laptop you told me cost ~110$ more which is over budget and I'm in a strict budget for this. (1500$) i cant extend or spare some more.

Also this one is more suitable for office environment, and it doesn't looks gaming. which i don't like too much.

When the CPU hits TJMax and crashes when rendering or throttles, you let me know.

My trashy 15 inch doesn't have heating issues, I doubt his will.

your GL502VS runs up to 90C+ in extended benches, 1070 is tdp limited AND power throttled, cause the 180 watt brick isn't enough. The laptop he picked is just much worse. same issues + EVEN WORSE cooling design.

then again it is skylake 6700hq so high temps dont really matter cause no OC potential anyway.

Is this a common issue with 1070's or a common issue with gigabyte laptops? I can't tell?

Ok @Dackzy, now you made me worry about it, when you say subpar cooling you mean the red stuff or the green circles?

red, but intakes doesn't equal cooling, heat pipes, surface area and the quality of the fans plays a huge role.

for 1500$ you can get pretty well specced out 1060 clevo, from hidevolution. Pendragon most likely knows the prices in the US better than I do, so he might know if you can get a 1070 Clevo.
