Hi All,

So I use my HP Envy 15-ah150sa (running a a10-8700p) as my main computer, so gaming on it as well as school work. (Feelsbadman)

But I've noticed recently (I don't know if this was happening in the past) that under strain - e.g. playing GTA V that my CPU sits at 71% Utilisation (Does not change at all which is really weird regardless of what I'm doing), as well as it underclocks my APU to under its base clock (1.8 GHz) to 1.3-1.27 GHz, when normally it sits at around 3 GHz.

Does anyone know what causes this to happen?

Cheers,

Tom

sounds like it could potentially be a bottleneck.

Possibly - but what & why? But the thing that is most weird is that the utilisation does not change at all, even if I am running other programs as well

well when a cpu is bottlencecking it is often always being maxed out in utilization so it generally wont change. just because the is probably at 100 percent utilization on the cores it can utilize.

tbh it sounds more like thermal throttling. What temps is it reaching when gaming?

That was my initial thought, it reaches around 60C, though I've run prime95 in the past and it has got higher (~75) without being throttled to this extent.

This is a lot worse than what I thought, I only got GTA V a couple days ago, therefore I thought it was only affecting GTA V being a new game which I have no clue how it will run. But I just had my first game of LoL in a while and it was horrible - same issue, lowest setting it sits less than 20fps with major spikes, compared with the normal 60fps at normal-high settings.

So it has started over the past couple of days...
