If u bring a few of your buddies and a baseball bat, u could probably overpower the guy at the front then take whatever u want

If you're a student, or look like you could still be in college- tell them its for a project and you've got no budget. Most places will give you stuff for free as they could potentially write it off as a charitable donation.

not true. Let's add something to this.

Nothing is free unless it's broken, useless, stolen or required hours of your time to find.

I can go dumpster diving and grab a thrown away PC. The PC would be free for me, but I had to spend hours of my time looking for it.

So yes, nothing is free. But some things cost you time instead of money.

You will find it was thrown away for a reason. Yes some people misdiagnose or are stupid but the time you spend in a dumpster could be better spent studying or working

But is studying or working nearly as fun...

Hell no.

I visit scrapyards and dumpster dive for fun or with the intent of resale.

Not all of life is about studying or working my friend. Having fun in life is just as important as working.

Also to add, OP is 13. He can't get a job so working is out. And at 13 I knew I had way more time then money, so for me this would be considered a useful venture.

Iv done it too but I did it for scrap metal. When scrap prices rose and I couldn't compete with drug addicts I switched to recycling computers. Good deals can be found at auction but I won't get into that now coz there's too much competition in it just like there was when I got out of scrap metal

"its not about the reward, its about the adventure"

IF did go to the center and picked up some old laptops with maybe a core 2 duo at best

I would be nice just to have and to experiment with

There is good stuff to be found

Even if the laptop is broken, use parts from other broken ones
