Ok, long story short, I got a new SSD, Kingston 120gb SSDNOW. I installed it and the first thing I do, is check to see if it shows up in "THIS PC" It's not there, even tho its installed. Any ideas to what im doing wrong?

*note it shows up on "SPECCY" but not on "THIS PC"

You may need to format it, the way I do this is open CMD as admin, run these commands:

diskpart

list disk

select disk (whichever number stands for your ssd in the previous list Example: 'select disk 1')

clean

create partition primary

format quick (you can specify a file system here but leaving it to default will make it show up at least.)

And that may work for you.

New ssd's need to be initialized and formed into a volume in windows.  Right click on this pc,  select manage,  then select disk management.  The new drive should show up there.  Right click and select form new simple volume and follow the guided walk through,  all the defaults should be fine.

This is the same thing as doing it through the CMD, it is much easier though and much more user friendly. I just never remember the specific steps xD

Ah, the classic blank new volume...

While we are on the subject, is there any reason why storage is not sold pre-initialized? I'm not saying it's a good idea as formats like NTFS are bound to evolve (and it would piss of a lot of server admins and Linux people), but was this ever contemplated?
