I recently helped build my friend a budget computer for under 250 bucks.

Right now it's running on a G4400 and an old HD 7770 1gb Saphire card with 4GB of ddr4.

He's thinking about upgrading to a G4560, but would like to know about how much performance gain he'll get.

I'll take a wild guess and say... 30%?

What do you guys think?

he will definitely see the difference i think it will depend on the game but i would look at benchmarks.

one has hyperthreading the other doesnt. it would be more like upgrading to an i3

Sorry, forgot. Still though, I feel that the high end Pentiums aren't worth it. If you are dead set on getting a CPU upgrade then get an i3 6100.

nah the pentium is basically the same as the i3 but for half the price.

he also said they are upgrading the gpu

Yeah benchmarks show that the g4560 only falls 3-5% below the 6100

He plans on upgrading to the gtx 1050 ti or rx 470

I think he was just stating that the CPU upgrade won't help performance at all.

I understand what he means, but there will be SOME increase in FPS. My guess is hel'll be able to play Overwatch on high instead of medium with 60fps+

Which tbh, is perfect, and he might not even need to upgrade the GPU unless he wants to play some GPU intensive AAA games.
