280w PSU Enough?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Yea should be perfectly fine but I would highly recommend that you go higher than that, you can pick good quality cheap PSUs at 400-450w, have a look at XFX which are cheap but built by SeaSonic which in my opinion are the best PSUs on the market.

I hope the PSU uses ATX, if so you'll be able to swap it for a decent unit.

Hello everyone, I am helping a friend with a tight budget computer. He wants to buy a cheap refurb computer with a i5 2400 and 8gb of ram. I found a lenovo m91p with a %85 plus efficiency psu with only 280w is that enough for a gtx 750 ti? I cant fit a psu into his budget. The card has a 65w tdp with no power connector so all the power goes through the pcie slot.

Lenovo spec sheet if this helps- https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/migr-76747

Thank you,

Yes it will be enough. I bet the PSU and motherboard will use proprietary connectors so you won't be able to switch to different PSU. 750ti and 1050 should work just fine.

Thanks for the reply, the psu is upgradable many people have done it with the default motherboard and a corsair or seasonic psu.

I can do a slight underclock and decrease the max tdp on the cpu and gpu to be safe he will be fine with the underclock to be safe since hes just playing casual games on a 900p monitor. The computer costed 100 dollars and the gpu 75 cheap as hell worth every penny.

I dont know he is on such a budget letting me chose the parts I dont know if a 1050 ti will fit in arent they like 140 USD? Anything over 100 is too much.

EVGA makes the 1050 ti for 140 you could probably find one cheaper but the performance is SO MUCH better
