New motherboard question

Guest

I bought Windows 10 home roughly six months ago. I bought the standard $90 or around there Windows 10 Home (OEM) version from Amazon.

I've been doing some research around and I found out with OEM you don't get Microsoft support for transferring the operating system over. This will make transferring over the key more difficult and I'm not entirely sure how to do it since I don't get Microsoft support from what I've seen since it's OEM.

Has anyone done this with Windows 10 home that was OEM? I would rather not pay another $90 or so for another key.

I'd call them.

If you purchased an OEM key it binds to your motherboard, and if you replace that you'd have to get a new key in theory.

I have heard of people being able to transfer them over by calling Microsoft though.

I could try giving them a call, but people have been saying they don't offer free support here with OEM versions. I would need to figure out how much it costs to do this. They offer free support with versions that aren't OEM. The problem is mine is OEM.

I will try calling them though.

Anyone else know a little further on this?

How do I do that? Is that instant when I link the account to my email?

I believe so. In that case you just need to login and it activates. At the moment Microsoft's seems to be more interested of market share than getting money from selling keys.
