My Laptops wifi adapter is weak

gexi45

Hello i have a problem with my Laptop, i keep losing connection to my WiFi and i dont know, its same when i tried with my friends laptop. But my phone is connected to the same Wifi no problem even if i am further from the router. So i am wondering if someone could help me or is this normal that Laptops have weaker Wifi Adapter/get bigger signal interference from components inside of Laptop.

Here is some info, not sure if helpful

- My Laptops Wifi adapter is Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter
- My Router is TL-WR841N
- My Laptop is about 4-5m (13-16.5 feet) from my router with 1 not very thick brick wall between them.
- My internet speed is 25/2 Mbps
- When i set my router i just did "Quick setup"

how old is your laptop?

Most laptops from the past 4 years use 802.11ac wifi and not 802.11n

its a budget laptop. I bought it about 2 years ago, not sure when it came out but had the best specs for my budget of 350€

it's this one https://www.acer.com/ac/en/IL/content/model/NX.MLUET.003

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume it only has the  2.4GHz Wi-Fi band.

Your phone likely also has the 5GHz band in addition to the 2.4Ghz band and thus why it can achieve similar speeds from far away.

You could try and buy a new Wi-Fi card such as the Intel 7260 or 8260(?) and replace the existing wifi card with that.

I don't want to open my laptop as it has a stupid design and its really hard to open it with out breaking something, so can i somehow disable wifi card inside of my laptop and use this https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Archer-T1U-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B016K088UC

Is it possible for you to go to a local tech repair place and ask them to replace the wifi module?

You could buy the Wifi card and give it to them to put in your laptop.

Of course they'll charge labor but other than that it'll be fine.

this will probably as good or worse than your current solution.

I looked it up, and you're right.  I work on laptops regularly (I'm a computer technician) and usually you only have to unscrew one panel to get to the wifi module.  I wouldn't recommend taking this model apart to someone who doesn't have the proper tools and experience though.

All you have to do is plug that dongle in and disable your WiFi module from Task Manager.

Edit: If you don't mind it being a little bulkier, I would suggest one like this.   You'll get a better range out of it, and it has a better rating.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!
