Some of them (Apparently) have better flow, and they let you change the barb/fitting sizes.

This, it also sometimes gives you more/better locations for fittings, as well as looking better.

Yeah, pretty much what others have said. Some provide better flow and give better variety of options for fittings. They also make your pump look better! Stock top on D5 looks like poop!

Also, some tops have the reservoir built onto them, so you can have an easy option for mounting the reservoir.

Do you guys know what the heck the rings to secure tubing to barbs are called? For the life of me I can't remember the name and I need to get some

Barbs or compression fittings? If barbs, do you mean zip ties?

for barbs, and yes like zip ties but the metal ones that you tighten with a screw driver
