Hello, after googling and digging around for a very long time (~about 1 year as of now) i've given up and make a post about this problem.

For about 2 years i've noticed the temperature of my cpu to be steadily climbing up as time passes, 2 years ago i wouldnt hit 70c, today im hitting 82+ on a load of 20%-40%. At first i thought my cpu fan was dying, i managed to get another stock heatsink for really cheap, it worked, but a few months later the problems came back, i tried resitting the heatsink numerous times to no effect, i did some bios tweaking to force more speed on the fans, im using a kind of cheap thermal paste, but tbh since the temperature keeps going up from time to time it leads me to believe its not a factor either. I havent changed what i do on my pc much during this time, which mostly involves some browsing + background videos while gaming. I've been meaning to get an evo 212, but money is tight and i dont want to buy something that will not work, or will stop working in a few months. Any ideas of what else i could try?. My motherboard is an intel DE77HB with no OC done, and as of now, i've disabled HT and seen a very nice temperature drop, as long as i dont have anything but the game open, which kinds of defeats the point.

A little bit of an update for anyone interested: Turns out TurboBoost was boostinf beyond what was considered ideal for this model, this particular one was advertised to go up to 3.5GHz, mine was going up to 3.9GHz, managed to work around it using the power settings and going down to 2.8GHZ, why was it doing this is beyond me. I did order an evo 212 to try to solve the problem however i wont have new results for 2 weeks. Thanks everyone for the help.

I would bet on the thermal paste.

Don't cheap out on the thermal paste.

Also try cleaning the heat sink from dust.

Your temp could be influenced by the ambient temp.

On full load your CPU should be around 80C so try opening prime95 and see the temps then.

I have my doubts on the current thermal paste i use, but could it really be the problem? I would have expected the problem would be instant if the paste was really bad, instead the temps seem to go up every other month. We can safely discard dust. Ambient temp is around 30c-35, it is however a very humid place. Any stress test i've done puts the cpu on the edge of throttling, almost instantly reaches 90c.

As time pases so the thermal paste degrades. Again I should suggest that you buy a better paste.
