Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and building systems.

After a ton of research I'm finally confident enough to have a go at building my first system - and I have managed to create a rough list of components that I will use.

Now before I get shot down in flames...I am aware that the parts I have chosen are majoritively out of date.

I'm not using this system for gaming, I just want a bespoke, budget, decent performing machine for my first build, with bang for buck being my highest priority.

I have already got my CPU (a Xeon 5650) and my mobo (Asus Rampage III Extreme) and I have just ordered my case (an Aerocool Aero 800 Black).

I was looking to use an NZXT Kraken X61 for my CPU cooling - however PC Part Picker is giving me a compatibility error for this combination.

I am a bit confused as I have seen several reviews for my case stating that there is space in the roof of the case for an AIO radiator.

My question really is - does anybody have any experience with this combination or any advice about compatibility with these components?

I am also open to any other recommendations or advice regarding my first build - as some parts are still to be determined (HDD, SSD, GPU, PSU)

Thanks,

Matt

I would make sure the case review matches the case and cpu cooler specifically, if it does, sometimes pcpartpicker is wrong. Water-cooling is not really necessary unless your overclocking, and I don't think you are sense your not gaming?

I would get up to a 256GB SSD for storage, if you need more than that then get a HDD for the rest.

You do not necessarily need a GPU if your not gaming.

I would add up how much watts your rig could potentially use, then add 150-200w in case you want to upgrade in the future.

Thanks for moving wkdpaul - sorry I'm new to the forum and didn't spot this obviously named sub section 9_9

Thanks for the advice Epic_NEx. I am looking to overclock the CPU to around the 4.0ghz mark for improved performance...I am on the fence about the graphics card to be fair, however I believe my board doesn't include an HDMI port on the I/O panel - and I'm ashamed to say I use my Samsung TV as a display rather than a dedicated PC display.

Although other connections could be used, I do play a lot of media (YouTube, BluRay etc.) and I would prefer an HDMI output on the PC to facilitate this.

It seems I can get a used, fully tested Asus GTX 750ti for around the £60 mark which fits nicely within my budget.

I will look further into the PSU side of things...not sure if its just the price of parts in the UK but I was quite surprised by the cost of a +500w PSU, and although I need a budget option, id rather go for a reputable brand like Corsair or equivalent.
