Hello, I am looking to buy this GTX 1070 founders edition off craigslist but I am not sure if I should get it.

I am travelling from Australia to the US so I dont have a desktop to try it in. There are not many second hand 1070's in australia and they go for at least $700, this one is $360 which is why I want to get it. I already have a gtx 1070 founders edition in my current setup and I wanted a second to sli. (I like the design of the FE)

He sent me these 2 videos to show me it works

Does this seem ok?

Thanks.

IMO:

personal experience : never buy expensive stuff second hand online.

100% sure of getting a new product paying high price new

80% sure of loosing your money buying second hand online and receive nothing.

Just buy the 1080 and sell your 1070 if you want to upgrade

Yeah I personally havnt had any bad experiences but I dont need this 1070 so maybe not worth the risk.

The gtx 1080 is $1100 in australia, too much for me

Assuming I understand correctly and you're buying in the U.S. in U.S. dollars, the price doesn't seem great. You can find some brand new, third-party GTX 1070's for $379 or so, and I can see at least one new FE card for about $410.

Buying used cards is fine BUT you should never do so if you cant test them properly. Plus ad already stated that is not even an amazing price. Maybe in comparison to where you live but not in USD. So I would not buy it if I were you, specially seeing you stated not needing it.

What kind of tests would you recommend me do, people seem very reluctant to let me see it in person and want to meet me somewhere and they send me videos. I guess they think I am going to rob them or something?

Idk whats usual up in the states, but when i sell my gpu's i offer them to perhaps play a round of some game or to run a gpu intensive benchmark for them while they can see it in person. Now most people will still just blindly make me ship them and trust it works, but i would try running anything that stresses the gpu with say hwmonitor on the background to see temps if you use a game (benchmarks will sometimes give you them on their own).

So yeah, just stress it for even just 10 min so you know it runs stable. Ofc only do it if its the last thing you need confirmed, would be annoying if it ran great and the buyer then after 20min still sais no.

Edit: the longer the better ofc but you cant ask them to run the benchmark for an hour. So this wont guarantee anything but you will see if there are big issues like a bad cooler (high temps) or card (low preformance compared to what it should do)

Np. If its extremely cheap compared to Australia you could go for it btw even if its not spectacular in price for ppl from the us. But i would not buy it from a guy at starbucks.

Imo he can meet you at his home and show you it in his system (cmon he has a 1070 he must have a pc) or just let it be.

I hope you find youself a nice card soon, we all know how noce getting "new" hardware is :P

When you are going to the US. Get a 1080 or If you want the card get a new one. If there is a Micro Center or any technology store like it where you're going. Then pick one up.

Maybe a US person can give us an approximate price of a new 1070 in the us so OP can compare it to see if he should do that instead.

Sry for double post my phone wont let me edit in quotes.
