i wouldnt see why not, and actually, with the push of the two mainstream ones going more and more towards PC, and nintendo staying loyal to being the weird duckling, i'd dare to say a gap in the market is opening up for a new "true" console player, something entirely plug & play like what *at least I* would expect a console to be.

also the nintendo switch may inspire other companies to make some sort of console which stands out compared to the xbox one and ps4

it happens constantly, we're just waiting for one that doesnt suck :P

Microsoft spent a huge amount getting themselves into the console market, it's not something anyone could enter on a tight budget. And even then there probably isn't room for a PS4/Xbox competitor, they'd struggle to get exclusives and lure fanboys away from their preferred brand. No point going up against Nintendo, because Mario, Zelda, etc... Tablets/phones are taking a large slice of the gaming pie too, though admittedly a large percentage of those gamers wouldn't game otherwise. And if they go for a premium, high powered console they are mixing it with PC. Hard to see where a new entrant could position themselves.
