I already got a X58 Intel 9xx setup, but I found a good deal on a X79 and looking at the chipset website

What is an average price for a Z79 motherboard, and are there any good yet cheap cpu's I can use?

LGA 1366, LGA 2011, and LGA 2011-v3

  • 1 X58 South Bridge is ICH10/ICH10R.
  • 2 X58 TDP includes the X58 IOH TDP in addition to the ICH10/ICH10R TDP.
  • 3 For Sandy Bridge enthusiast desktop platform. Sandy Bridge CPUs will provide up to 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes for direct GPU connectivity and additional 4 PCIe 2.0 lanes. NOTE : This reference number 4 is on X79, which is a Sandy bridge -E, not Sandy Bridge, and PCIe 3.0 only is enabled when A Ivy Bridge-E CPU or Xeon E-5 series is used.
  • 4 For Haswell enthusiast desktop platform. Haswell CPUs will provide up to 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes for direct GPU connectivity and additional 4 PCIe 2.0 lanes.

for X79 im pretty sure there are no cheap and good CPUs like there is with X58. X79 is a good platform but its more expensive then x58 atleast when it comes to CPUs

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

Is it worth it?

if you want more preformance and can find a good deal, like $80 motherboard and a decent CPU for a good price then sure, but you can probably get more preformance getting an I7 4790K and a Z97 motherboard if you dont need a lot of cores
