upgrades to my x99 Build?

2 members have voted

  1. 1. I have roughly $650 to put towards an upgrade to my x99 build. (6900k, 1080 ftw hybrid gaming, nvme boot drive, 2x 850 evo's RAID 0, 2tb wd blue 5.4k, 3tb wd blue 5.4k, 32 gb 3000mhz ddr4, ASUS sabertooth tuf x99). Should I:

    • Custom water cooling loop for cpu? (h440 can fit 2x360mm radiators, and I would use 2x 360 for cpu, 1x for FE gpus at a later time)
      2
    • upgrade to SSD only config?

    • buy FE 1080 for sli (Founders Edition only, for minimal overall system temp increase
      0
    • (my least favorite idea due to cost) sell current 1080 hybrid and put $650 + $$$ from 1080 hybrid toward a Titan XP?

I have a i7-6900k OC to 4Ghz in an ASUS Sabertooth X99 mobo, a Corsair H115i, 32GB LPX ddr4 3000mhz, with a EVGA GTX 1080 FTW Hybrid Gaming, 2x 250GB 850 Evo's for video editing, an Intel 600p 256GB m.2 nvme ssd to boot from, WD Blue 5.4krpm HDD's (2TB and 3TB) for file storage with Hue+ rgb's in an nzxt h440 razer case. With tax season coming up, I was curious about what I should do with the excess returns I am getting? I plan to have $350-$650 of a budget to use for upgrades.

here's really my considerations:

-a second 1080? (maybe a FE to minimize  overall system temp increase)
-different storage options

-Custom Water Cooling loop for CPU (I bought 25 compression fittings with plans to use them on z170 before deciding to switch to x99).

Here is a option: save up for GPU upgrade down the line with new gen cards when needed.

Would not SLI because of potential issues like despite higher fps less smooth gameplay even if it works and is supported.

So from your options a custom loop seems like a nice idea then.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

How are we supposed to know what's important to you? You want more GPU horsepower? Go for SLI. You want super fast storage or slightly less noise? Get some SSDs. Want  a fancy custom loop? Guess you know the answer.

Personally I wouldn't upgrade any of that. Use the money for a nicer monitor maybe. Or some headphones. Or speakers. Or a holiday.

Does you mum know you're here?
