So, built a new PC today. And something is acting on the audio side. I've not had a high end PC build for nearly 10 years, servers are my thing so very stuck on how to fault fix this.

Symptoms.

1) Youtube vidoes did play, but had terrible sound for the first 10 or so seconds. Now I've changed something they won't play at all....and yes, JS is enabled in chrome

2) All my windows sounds are distorted and sound like some demonic presence

3) All gaming sounds are the same

Set up is a ASUS GTX 1080 STRIX with DP into ASUS Predator 34inch g-SYNC.

I can see realtek and NVIDIA Drivers are there and "Sonic" but unsure how this should be set up?

Have you confirmed that the headset/speakers you're using work on something else first?

nono, try to plug in a headset or speakers in the motherboard not the gpu.

The sound is running over DP, into the monitor speaks...No  additional sound wiring.

I've just uninstalled flash player and that made the youtube videos play. But I have the first 10 seconds of terrible sound and video and it goes fine

i am telling you to plug in a headset in the back of the motherboard for troubleshooting.

Just in case anyone comes across this again.

Two issues

1 - CPU was being bottled necked caused by only half the RAM being picked up by the MOBO. Faulty DDR Ram

2 - GPU was only utilising half the PCI lanes, found the mobo I have has a specific single GPU slot to use when not in SLI mode.

Hopefully one day this is useful!
