So recently I found a Lenovo T410s for 17$ that came with two mini pcie slots and was wondering "could I use these like m.2 slots and add super fast storage?" I found that you can and am now wondering with a potential of 4 ssd slots(one ssd that came with, one I could put in the dvd drive bay, and two in the mpcie slots) and would raid 4 array work in this machine? I'd like your opinion if this is possible

raid 4 is definitely a thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_RAID_levels#RAID_4

Quote

RAID 4 consists of block-level striping with a dedicated parity disk. As a result of its layout, RAID 4 provides good performance of random reads, while the performance of random writes is low due to the need to write all parity data to a single disk.[19]

In the example on the right, a read request for block A1 would be serviced by disk 0. A simultaneous read request for block B1 would have to wait, but a read request for B2 could be serviced concurrently by disk 1.

Yes - but so what ?   NOBODY uses RAID4 - @GDRRiley was clearly trying to ensure the OP was not confused between   "4 drives" and RAID4 - which are not the same.

well he was wrong, thats what. he could've said "raid 4 is an odd choice, or did you mean 4 drives in a raid configuration?" i just wanted to correct a small mistake to prevent confusion. stop assuming what people want and need, thats the opposite of helping.
