Windows 10 Install - Hard Drive Issues

Hello,

I just built a new system and I am having issues with installing windows. Here are my specs:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G43 Plus ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Western Digital RE3 250GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Mini Video Card
Case: DIYPC J180-W ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home Full - USB 32/64-bit

I was installing Windows 10 and in the "Drive Select" Menu all I see is "Disk 0 Unallocated Space", but it says that the disk has 0.0mb Total and Free Space. I cannot select it, and if I try to make a new partition it says that I can only make one which is 7mb max. I have also been hearing what I think is the hard drive spinning up, clicking a bit, and spinning down repeatedly.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums! It sounds like you have a dead hard drive. Do you have another computer to try it with, or verify the sounds you're hearing?

Sadly, no. I might be able to boot linux on a flash drive and check it. Is this possible?

You can check with Gparted to see what the partition structure currently is, and if there are no partitions try to make one, but if the drive is having trouble maintaining it's speed, that may be a sign of a physically dead drive.

Yeah, sounds like its dead. Dealing with a customer once I had a drive that was only reading 2048mb total capacity on a 1tb drive. Any signs of your disk space being shorted or clicking in the drive is a sign that it is either already dead, or is about to kick the bucket.
