Wooden PC Case

What's up everyone! 

So I'm a woodworker/furniture builder, and a huge gamer. 

 

I'm planning on building a wooden pc case. No specific designs yet, but I'm not sure on what size I want it to be yet.

 

So that's where you come on. What size wood (haha get it) you guys like to see?  ITX? mATX? Full sized? HTPC style? Open air?

Here's one of my builds it's the Thermaltake P3 and something like this out of wood would be super cool.

I have yet to do my custom water cooling loop to it but in wood it would look cool.

At first, I thought an open air would be quite easy, but the more I think about it and look at designs, I feel like this would be more of a challenge. But I like it. How are temps on an open air?

I will find a way, and a way shall be found. I'm just building this case for fun, but maybe I'll build a wooden open air for my mATX build

Being open air your overall temps depend on your room temps. This system is usually in my basement and it's my coolest system b far, I notice (this is a no brainer) in my other systems when my GPU starts to get hot everything else really starts to warm up as well. With open air that's not the case. The only thing I find is you don't have air flowing past you motherboard or ram and stuff, so they can get a bit warmer but nothing outrageous and definitely within acceptable standards.

 

This system I'm anal about the thermals and the open air build is far cooler:

I'm not a master carpenter or anything (I'm half decent especially considering the lack of tools I have) but I needed a portable server rack so this summer me and my best friend had built this. Just thought I'd show you.

An ATX case is going to provide an opportunity to really show off the wood and construction. Cooling requirements are going to detract in small mini-ITX cases.

This is very true in regards of being able to see more of it, no doubt. And, I am well aware that they provide better cooling benefits over an ITX system. Building this case isn't to save money, or provide a cooler system. I've been doing woodworking for quite some time and gaming even longer, and while building my last custom case, I got the idea for a wooden one. And, while there are a couple out there, there really isn't much, or at least that I have found. Most of them are just hodge podge jobs that someone threw together with plywood. I have yet to see a nice looking pc case that was made from wood. Not necessarily custom, just a nice looking case.

Didn't take it as a rant. I think it's a great idea to build a beautifully crafted computer cabinet.
