Recommended Blu Ray Burner

Just wondering what you would personally recommend for a desktop internal blu ray burner. I'm having tough choices at the moment.

As a pure blue ray burner... whatever you can afford.

If you're using it as a multipurpose drive there are other issues.

I prefer drives with a silencer if I'm going to be playing movies of it.

If you're just burning, then you need raw speed, and don't want to pay for optional extras.

I maintain to this day that spec sheets are your friend...You just need to figure out what questions you need addressed before you ask the questions.

Not much to choose from these days, LG's are fine though in general.

They seem pretty nice, but I really want to avoid their spying stuff. I've heard and seen that a lot from people that have bought their products.

Looking at an Asus one right now, but it seems to have a bunch of negative reviews. Pioneer is also interesting, but I've never bought from them before.

If you want to play blu ray movies you will need PowerDVD. Has to do with copyrights and build in safety meassures.

There where a few others for normal blu ray support, but PowerDVD is in general the best supported solution on this niche market segment.

Yeah, many programs don't offer the support for native blu ray disk playback. And so far they are the only one for Ultra HD playback to my knowledge, but havn't checked.

It is a very decent program, have been using it for years now because of limited choice because of certain support needed. The current powerDVD16 Ultra suits my needs very well, but expect to have them drop 17 soon. Not certain if it already is since I don't have a HDR screen, but if it needs extra support above the normal Ultra HD support for HDR content, it is very likely that it gets into Ultra 17.

Yeah well it is not much done these days to hook up your PC and use it as home cinema, but some movie geeks like me do it :)
