Just built my dream machine, i7700k, asus rog maximus IX formula, 32gig hyperx predator, kraken x62. GTX 1080 FTW

I can get the system to overclock to 4.9ghz with ease but when I try for the 5ghz windows crashes BSOD. I have heard that people are getting 5ghz on air, I am using asus overclock tool. temps at full load on package will hit 70c.

Sometimes you just crap out with the silicone lottery mate, that's the way it goes

is this the board with the preset overclocking functions?

could be that it isn't delivering enough bolts for the clock speed it's trying to aim for, but doubtful if it's a prebuilt manufacturer overclock as they would have rigorously tested it on chips to make it as stable and as safe as possible

What PSU are you using? Like previously stated it ain't impossible that you got the wrong side of silicon lottery.

Are you uping the voltage too when you are increasing the clock speed?

🙂

not yet everthing was with the Asus OC tool, after work I plan on going into the advance setting and trying that, Anyone have spec that I should not go over?

Ok that's most likely why you can't get higher.  You have to increase the voltage when you overclock so the chip can actually reach the clock speeds you desire.  What are your current voltages at 4.9?

Will post everything when I get a break from work.

You're going to find that manual OC is the way to go.
