i7 4790 vs i5 7500

IAR117

Is it worth going for the i5 for 4k gaming? I want something future proof, but not something that will underperform. Thanks in advance

4790 all the way, not even in the same league.

Really? How many more frames in AAA games?

depends on the games but generally you could run at a higher frame without bottlenecking a gpu.

In this case an RX 480 8GB. In future if I get XFire, will it bottleneck the GPUs?

I already have xD. I was just questioning the future proofness of it as I got it last week.

Ryzen at its best will perform about the same as Haswell, and since it has the same SKU  (4c 8t, 4c 4t, 8c 16t) there really is no point in waiting.

I would but I'm not so sure if it'll outperform an i7 for 180 pounds which is around 225 dollars. I know it is coming out soon but I'm quite sure my i7 will do for a few years

I know it's not a massive difference from skylake to kabylake, but if I were to buy the CPU right now- there'd be a 5 pound difference which I can justify

xD I wish I could do the same, but I'm just some kid who wants to play games every so often so I can't find an excuse to invest into X99, but hey I can dream about it

If you're going to spend that much money (and you have a Z97 motherboard), definitely spend the extra $30 for the 4790K version. It's a pretty big performance difference, even when it's not overclocked.

Unfortunately in the UK, there is a literally a 125 pound difference. Also I wouldn't want to void the warranty, but I totally understand why most people would spend the extra money for OCing.

Also I know this isn't in the right section but can I have 2 RX 480s running in Crossfire X. Because I found a cheap XFire motherboard, but it says Crossfire X.Is there a difference between this and crossfire?

Overclocking doesn't void the warranty, but with that big of a difference I totally understand.

They will replace a CPU that's damaged from overclocking.  Just not any parts it damages.
