Is the fan working ok? Make sure the fan spins freely feel the actual heatsink, make sure it's making good contact with good mounting pressure, and see how hot the fin stack is, if the CPU is hot but the cooler isn't, then there might be a bad mount, if the whole thing is hot then it's not up to par, and a replacement should be considered, 70°C is what I expect from a stock cooler.

Somewhat high for Haswell but overall not terrible. Worry should come if it approaches 90C.

Is your processor overclocked right now? If it's not, yes get a new one so you'll have more headroom. If it is then I would still get one just for cooler temps; in my experience cooler temps increase longevity of components. I watercool both my CPU and GPU and don't even overclock just because I like my shit to be nice and cool ;)

It is a non k so.. not over clocked. What CPU cooler do you recommend as I can't fit the 212 EVO in my case. (155mm max headsink)

Wow I had a blonde moment, didn't even notice the lack of a k SKU. Whoops. Anyway, are you against water cooling? Most are very low profile and you can a descent one for around $50 if you catch a deal. What kind of case do you have anyway?

I have a ThermalTake Versa H15 (Micro ATX and 155 max headsink) I an not against water cooling however, I am on a budget (under £30 (50 USD)) and I am inexperienced with water cooling

Reapply thermal paste and see if it fixes. Other people playing i5 4460 on BF1 has temps around 50 too. Though 70 is not something to worry at all

I dont know that TIM is but I am using a push air flow system with 2 intake 1 outtake. I use the MX2 thermal paste.

TIM = Thermal Interface Material. How's the coverage? 2 Intakes and an outtake should provide plenty of airflow unless they're at like 30% speed. Maybe reapply the thermal compound and see does it help, but it should be better than that. I HIGHLY doubt the heat pipes are bad, it could just be your CPU's a particularly hot one or BF1 is hitting all 4 cores at once, which it does.

Yours faithfully

I did the rice grain method on the thermal paste. I am actually running BF1 under minimum specs of BF1! (a 4690k which I think is ridiculous) and it is mostly at 100% utilisation. Could that be it? However, CS:Go runs at 65C

Is the fan working ok? That thermal compound is kinda old though, released between 2008/2009, so while it doesn't technically have a shelf life, it wouldn't hurt to buy some IC diamond or newer type of thermal compound.
