I'm thinking of upgrading my MSI B150 M3 to an MSI Z270 M5 motherboard howevery the I/O on the back has lost 2 USB type A ports (which I need as I have alot of peripherals such as joystick, steering wheel, mouse and keyboard which has a USB passthrough as well and a USB audio interface) and also one of the type A ports has been switched for a USB type C port which as far as I can tell has next to no use on a desktop PC. All the dongles I can find have a cable too short to actually rest on the table. So if anyone has any ideas about what I could do (maybe get a USB extension?) that would be helpful.

Type C will have far more uses in coming years, there is no doubt about that.  However right now all I use my type C port for is one of these which is very handy;

USB C is starting to fade in. like, it takes time for everonone to have devices that support it, and for products to use it.

there are exsternal drives that use USB C, there are phones that has it, and there is also USB hubs, and more that has it.

That thing Kierax linked to is more ment for laptops tho. I think that mobos already have ethernet port. I dont have a spesific model, but there are just plain USB hubs that use USB C.

Over the past two years USB-C has been slowly infiltrating the market. More and more accessories are coming out every day, and with the new MacBook's four thunderbolt exclusivity it's likely that will speed up moving forward.

Honestly I find that the USB 3.1gen2 type-A ports have far less use because every single SS+/gen2/10Gbps accessory I've seen uses type-c...
