Hello All,

So recently I had opened a forum to decide what Linux distro I would try first. I got an overwhelming response that it would be best to try Arch Linux. I have ran into an issue that seems relatively unusual compared to some of the other issues out there on the internet. I get errors such as "problem fetching invariants of chip, aborting" and "Network is unreachable". When doing a modprobe, nothing comes up. I tried ip link and got "mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1 link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00". Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Don't try arch first, try something like ubuntu or fedora.

What network card(run lspci) you may need a driver for some cards.

Ethernet Controller: Broadcom Limited NetLink BCM57788 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01). It's actually an old Dell prebuild I had refurbed from scraps.

If your new to Linux then go with Ubuntu desktop / server. depending on use. I have never used Arch but from what I have read from being tempted is that it can be a headache to setup.

Would you have the time to perhaps walk through the set up?

Can you tell us what you have tried so far?

Running dhcpcd usually works on a fresh arch install...

I have tried dhcpcd already and to no avail. Other than what's listed in the original post, I don't think that I have tried anything else as far as making efforts to solve the issue.

Yeah sure thing,
Firstly go to Here and download Ubuntu

I take it your a windows user so follow this guide to make a USB boot drive
Look at the quick guide on using Ubuntu desktop

a good place to learn more server idea of Linux is Raspberry Pi Guides, they are great because they are simple to follow and explain everything on the way (be aware that not everything could be the same but remember google is your friend)

Lol I am not sure if you misunderstood or are being facetious. Either way, it was a little comical. I was meaning to ask you if you could by any chance walk me through the steps of installing a Broadcom module in Arch Linux.
