What to expect when changing motherboard

Hi I am soon to be switching my mobo see this theard why

but what do I need to expect when the mobo is changed? I know I have to reactivated windows I think. But also do i need to undo my overclock? It's currently overclocked with the build-in OC function of my mobo. and what else do I need to take into account?

If it's the same motherboard, you're in luck. You'll have to reactivate Windows at most.

 

If it's a different motherboard, you'll be reinstalling Windows.

 

OC is tied to the motherboard, so you'll have to redo that.

yes you will need to call microsoft to re-activate your windows key

no, your overclock does not carry over, overclock settings are saved with your motherboard...not the CPU.

You will have to uninstall drivers from the previous board, and install new drivers for new board for audio, lan etc.

not at all that's BS i switched to from an intel board, to an amd board and back to anohter intel bard and i never had to re-install windows what so ever.

That depends on the motherboard. I've had mobos that didn't care and mobos that wouldn't even let windows load up, that's why I always recommend fresh installs

I went from Z77 to Z170 a few months back and I didn't have to reinstall or reactivate Windows 10.

that depend on what license of windows you have...if you have a proffesional edition i think it will allow a motherboard swap without asking for re-activation...if you have home version you'll have to get microsoft on the phone and re-activate through and if you have an OEM key then you're pretty much out of luck you can always try to talk them into it but usually it's a no go...especially if you're coming from an HP or dell pre-built machine for example.

I have the Home version. I assure you that I didn't have to reactivate or anything.
