So I have maybe about 2 hours of sketchup use in my entire life so I used whatever knowledge I had based on other 3d modeling programs. I got this desk idea from my brother and looked up some really awesome build online so he said he likes leg room and loots of it he wants it to be stable and functional he doesn't care about droors he knows how to get all this machined and how ti do all the cuts himself but he just wanted me to post it on here to see what others would think of the idea. He said he wants to use an red oak plywood but i told him that it would end up getting really heavy. I asked him about any other ideas but he is worried about the safety of the desk. He said he wants it to be as much like linus's desk minus the legs he likes the ones I designed. I do too but it could use some more support for sure. He doesn't mind the idea of a type of cabling channel under the desk he also doesn't dislike the idea of putting a lip behind the desk that will support a monitor but also let air run underneath it as the back will be  up against a wall for at least a good year or two until he moves into his girlfriends house. He says that he would like to go for a 3.5 ft height a 3 ft depth and a 6-7ft length. So 3.5 feet up following the knees, 3 feet from stomach to wall, and a 6-7 foot arm length. The body parts were just for reference to location. Anyways again two hours of sketchup time so far and I am really at a rut I don't know how to put anything else in this program so far just really trying to see what anyone else thinks so far.

I recently build a desk PC for my little brother, from scratch. (Funnily about a month before Linus made that video, I wish I waited, he had some nice ideas).

The primary design requirement was being able to sit at it on a couch. (all measurements in cm unless stated otherwise since I don't like barley corns)

I used 150x75x1 piece of wood, screwing in the components and adding a 150x9x1 to front and back as well as a 73x9x1 to the sides at all right angles, creating an open box of

150x75x9.

Then I screwed 3 aluminium L-profiles around the top edges leaving about 2-3mm gap to the upper edge of the wood. Then I slotted a big piece of acrylic into this gap closing the box, giving it a transparent top, which is then secured with the 4th L-profile.

The last step was the stand, I used heay duty right-angles to screw 5x5cm as vertical legs to the backside, to which I added 2 more angles as feet on the bottom giving to whole Desk a C shape when viewed from the side. This way my beloved sibling can pull the feet underneath the sofa making it possible to game in comfort.

I don't know if you wanted stuff like this, since I didn't see a question anywhere, but I guess idea-exchange helps everyone :)

I like it I like it a lot although my brother plans on having plenty of fans around the sides and possibly the back of the desk and that means the sides would have to be at least 14-16cm high

I cut a whole in the bottom, adding a 3x120mm Rad that draws from the bottom and 80mm noctua fans in the back. I used 2 layers of insect protection for windows at 45° to each other to filter the massive intake.

oh that isn't a bad idea although I can't imagine that the 80mm fans are quiet
