Hey, a friend of mine had a desktop pc with an asus LGA 775 motherboard and I had an LGA 775 motherboard, an msi one that I got and couldn't test it and asked him to test it for me as he had a q8200 that he could use. When he finished mounting the board on his case, he told me that it wasn't booting up and it could be due the the case power on button connector, maybe he was putting it in the wrong place, and after a while, he gave up and gave me the motherboard back, then he "rebuilt" the system with his asus motherboard and it didn't work as well and it was all well connected like it was before he tested my motherboard, so he took it to a pc shop near and after testing all the parts one by one, the guy told him it was the motherboard that died, so I sold him my msi motherboard and told him I'd help him with it since he wasn't able to boot it once again. Today, I came by his house and noticed a major problem, one of the wires from a molex connector was loose and was touching the case (and maybe the motherboard, previously), I noticed this because I got a big static shock when I touched the PC case, and told him it was probably that loose wire that caused both motherboards to die. Both motherboards won't boot up, the power switch from the case won't do anything but the light from the GPU is on, and if I jumpstart the asus motherboard, the cpu fan spins and the cpu gets hot (no beep from the motherboard speaker though) and if I jumpstart the msi motherboard, the GPU led gets on but the cpu fan doesn't spin nor the cpu gets hot. Am I right about the loose wire being the cause of both motherboards dying? Also, he was using my two ddr3 sticks as he didn't have any ddr3 ram, is there any chance that my ram got killed by static as well?

Thank you, Bruno.
