Problems with Rx460 and Wattman

Hi everyone,

 

I recently built my own computer thanks to the help of some LTT videos and reviews that I have seen. Everything is running smoothly except the graphics card... For some reason, about once every 5 restarts the display fails, and then corrects itself and I get to the desktop with a message saying "default wattman settings have been restored due to an unexpected failure". I have not tweaked ANY wattman settings, they are all at default and windows 10 is fully updated with the latest drivers installed for the graphics card.

 

Anyone else experience this? What should I do to resolve it?

don't bother reinstalling drivers, it is a waste of time.

I have the same problem with my crossfire R9 290x, since the last driver update it pops-up less frequent. 

The only possible solution I've found is removing the drivers with DDU and installing the latest driver. And never open Wattman ever. I haven't tested it yet though.

 

But most of us are probably just waiting on AMD to fix the driver.

 

Also, wattman resetting itself would result in low <20fps in games that normally run >60fps.

I'd have to restart my pc to get back to normal.

Good question, I don't know for sure. But I think opening the setting would be fine. As long as you keep away from the wattman setting.

 

I'd have to go into the setting to enable Crossfire. I'll test the solution this this weekend.

 

But I'm kinda done with AMD drivers atm. Considering selling my gpu's and going green.

have any of you tried Crimson 16.11.5? Some people have reported having issues with the relive driver, and rolling back to pre relive fixes this issue for some. (i think its 16.11.5 that is the one before relive.)

Don't worry, Nvidia has been fucking up their drivers as well

Unless it's rolling back to older drivers...I mean every single driver ever released has always had the odd few people where the drivers doesn't properly work for them...

I was Team red since i started gaming. So it's a big change for me.

AMD has a good price/quality ratio, but you'll need to go green to get the performance. At least atm, fingers crossed for Vega.

 

A buddy of mine has a MSI RX470 running smooth without any problems.

I think I will try that. maybe disabling relive will fix the issue.

If you have a 200 series card do not touch Wattman at all, as far as i know it has issues on the 290 and 390 specifically, also dont just uninstall relive go back to the pre relive driver.

Yes, if your having the crashing issues try 16.11.5 also, i was just saying Wattman has some issues currently with the 290(x), and 390(x) and it is best to not change Wattman settings with those cards.

I don't wanna alarm you guys but I used to have this problem as well on my 7950 , never done oc or anything on it. Well, yesterday after crashing it died completely.

No reason to be. You got a new RX so you'r still covered by warranty if anything dies on you.
