Weird audio problems with headphone jack

I've owned headphones and earbuds before where the wiring gets messed up and sound only comes out of 1 ear unless you twist the cable a certain way. This is not the case I have right now.

If I plug in my headphones all the way into the jack (like normal), youtube and most things work fine, but then netflix will only play through 1 ear. If I pull out the plug just slightly so it's still in but not all the way, netflix will play just fine, but then the youtube audio is completely garbled.

I've never seen a headphone jack problem that changes based on the software. Any idea what's happening?

If headphones are a 4 pole plug  (TRRS where one is mic) they may not like getting plugged into a 3 pole port.

That would effect more than Netflix, while Netflix is the only program/site that checks for Windows headset settings of the ones he listed.

From the desktop, right-click your taskbar’s Speaker icon and choose Playback Devices.

Click your speaker or speaker’s icon and then click the Configure button.

I did that and in the configure there is a test. Both sides worked perfectly.

They are 4 pole (with a mic) but it's plugged into a laptop with a 4 pole connection.

EDIT: after testing each side on Netflix, one side works normally, the other works only for background music. I can't hear voices, but background music works almost perfectly.

EDIT2: Realized it's just an issue with a few episodes, I think it's good on my end. Thanks for the help guys!
