4 port LACP?

newgeneral10

Quick question.  I'm researching to build my own nas (using freenas) and I see a lot of things for teaming/lagg/LACP but they only do it for two ports. If I have 4 1Gb ports, could I hook them all together and get (theoretically) 4Gb throughput?

You can link them all together, but you would be getting 4Gbps of bandwidth, not necessarily throughput.

If you're looking at buying a new NIC for LACP, your best bet is to go with something from Intel, as FreeNAS can have issues with non-Intel NICs. Of course, you'll also be needing a switch capable of using LACP.

LACP works for up to 16 ports.

Throughput with LACP is going to vary, since one conversation will always be carried out through one port. In order for you to benefit from 4 ports you need at least 4 clients accessing the server at all times with more than half of the bandwidth of one connection.
