The above is not true.

X99 is for intel 2011-3 chips, z/b/h170 is for intel 1151 chips.

X99 chips do not necessarily have to be extreme editions.

Where you might be confused is that the 6700k, 6600k, 6500k and so forth are 1151 chips while the 6800k, 6850k, 6900k, and 6950x are completely different 2011-3 chips.
