Internal Network speed too low?

Sneder

Hello, I am new to this forum. So please if I do anything wrong just tell me.
I'm pretty sure my image is super unclear, but here it is in essence: 1 of the computers has an upload of ~99mbps, the other a download of ~98 mbps. But the file transfer is only happening at 11-12 mbps. Is this normal?

mbps = megabits per second. file transfer is in megaBYTES per second. 8 bits in a byte, 98/8 = 12.5 megabytes per second transfer rate.

Pay attention to mbps and MB/s. The transfer is at 11MB/s while the listed speeds are 99mbps (there are 8 bits in a byte). 99mbps = 12MB/s~.

Either way, that is on the slow side. You should be able to get above 11MB/s transfer speeds. Do you have a gigabit router? What are you transferring from/to?

Aaaahhh the capitilization. I see the difference. I just assumed the units were the same, thank you.

Either way, those speeds are still on the slow side. You should be able to get above 11MB/s transfer speeds. Do you have a gigabit router? What are you transferring from/to?

My switch is not gigabit, that's the problem here. I'll try to see if I can find a better one somewhere. Thanks for pointing it out though, didn't know the switch was such a low speed.

The TP-Link TL-SG105 is a good basic Gigabit switch.
