Help with external mic

My shitty camcorder (sony handycam hdr cx 220) doesn't take external mics - is it possible for me to buy a dslr camera mic and plug it into a phone and record like that? if so, what app or program should i use? please help

Firstly, yes you can plug a mic into a phone and record it using an app (just search for voice recorder and choose one).

 

Another option would be a dedicated recorder like the zoom h1, which has a built in mic and can be used with external mics. This would give slightly better quality, reduce battery strain on your phone and prevent anyone phoning you and possibly interrupting you.
