Monitor connected to a USB-C hub uses GPU?

JPotze

Hello,

I saw the video of linus using a usb-c hub to connect to the new macbook to fix the 'port problems'. You can connect a hdmi or displayport, ethernet and such to the hub. I was wondering. If my motherboard has a usb-c connector. can i plug my monitor on the hub and use the power of the gpu to drive the display?

I ask that because if the gpu uses his power to drive the monitor connected to the hub, then i can put my computer in the room next to me and pull 1 usb-c cable to a hub in my room and then i dont have to deal with the heat and noice of that pc.

Hope someone has the answer. Tnx for replying.

No, in order for the GPU to drive the display the display needs to be plugged into the graphics card's outputs.

I remember a video of Linus personal rig where he put is rackmounted computer in a room next to him and used a hub to play games. How did he do it?
