Nasty Virus?

so a couple days ago, i noticed that my pc was acting a bit off, on task manager i saw that 90% of my ram was in use, but when adding up all the tasks, its only about 40%. This has been happening almost consonantly, what could be causing it, and how do i stop it? is it a root kit?

It's called a memory leak.

What OS are you using and how did you install it?

Just for clarification, a memory leak is when something requests memory but then doesn't put it back when it's done using the memory. As a result, the memory just kinda sits there marked as "in use" but since nothing is ACTUALLY using the memory it doesn't show up in TM.

I'm using Windows 10, and I installed it via DVD on a custom built pc

Oml I just found it.... Turns out vertual box 'stores' the allocated memory, so it took it away from my system and doesnt show it on task manager. So it's more of an intended memory leak I suppose
